Mankato, Minn. --- Senior Lauren Smith became the program's newest record holder for goals in season, but No. 9 North Dakota topped the Minnesota State women's hockey team, 8-2, Saturday afternoon at All Seasons Arena

Tanja Eisenschmid opened the scoring for UND at the 1:25 mark of the first-period to kick start a five-goal period for the visiting team. Jocelyne Lamoureux tallied twice in the frame at the 8:00 and 11:51 marks before senior Lauren Smith made history when she scored her 19th goal of the season giving her the MSU record for goals in a season passing Michelle Sikich (1998-99) and Melanie Salatino (2003-04). Smith was assisted on the goal by junior Lauren Barnes and senior Emilia Andersson. Monique Lamoureux (15:21) and Josefine Jakobsen (17:34) would add two additional goals for UND making the score 5-1 after 20 minutes of play.

Michelle Karvinen scored 29 seconds into the second-period to increase UND's lead to 6-1. But junior Kelsie Scott answered back for the Mavericks by scoring less than two minutes later at the 2:11 mark to make the score 6-2. Scott was assisted on the goal by sophomore Casey Hirsch and senior Erica Magnusson.

Jakobsen added two more goals at 13:57 and 18:44 of the third-period for UND to finish off her second hat-trick of the weekend.

Sophomore goaltender Erin Krichiver finished with a game-high 29 saves in relief for the Mavericks who converted on one-of-six power-play chances. UND outshot MSU 48-13 on the afternoon and ended two-of three on the man advantage.

Minnesota State (9-16-3, 5-14-3-1 WCHA) hits the road next weekend as it travels to Minnesota-Duluth to take on the Bulldogs at AmSoil Arena.
