MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's hockey team shut out the Minnesota Whitecaps, 4-0, in an exhibition game at LaBahn Arena on Friday night. Freshman goaltender Jorie Walters recorded 18 saves in the shutout effort.

After not being on the ice since the North Dakota series, Dec. 8-9, the Badgers started off strong, taking the lead with a goal from Karley Sylvester late in the first period. Saige Pacholok centered a pass to Sylvester who was able to get a stick on it, slipping it past former Badger netminder Jessie Vetter.

The second period was all Wisconsin, with goals coming from Courtney Burke, Rachel Jones and Katy Josephs. Burke made a move to get around a defender to score against Vetter, with the assists going to Jordan Brickner and Kim Drake, putting the Badgers up 2-0.

A little over a minute later, Pacholok made a pass just inside the blue line to Jones, who was sitting on top of the crease. Jones got her stick in front of the puck, deflecting it around Vetter for the Badgers' third goal.

Josephs scored the last Wisconsin goal 11:41 into the second period from the middle of the slot. Brianna Decker created a turnover in the Whitecaps' zone and pushed the puck over to Josephs, who then sniped it over Vetter's glove.

The Whitecaps doubled their shots on goal in the third period, but Walters didn't let a single one through. Walters was also helped out by her defense which blocked 10 shots.

Wisconsin returns to LaBahn arena to take on Ohio State, Jan. 11-12, to resume WCHA play. Both games start at 7 p.m
