Buckeyes net three goals in third period to earn victory

Senior Hokey Langan had two assists for the Buckeyes

The St. Cloud State Unversity women's hockey team (2-7-1, 2-6-0 WCHA) lost a 4-2 match against #10 ranked Ohio State University (9-3-0, 7-3-0 WCHA) at the National Hockey and Event Center on Saturday, Nov. 3.

The Huskies relied on two shorthanded goals to keep the action close for two periods, before the Buckeyes opened it up with three goals in the final period to ice the game/

SCSU's Alex Nelson posted the game's first goal at 2:55 of the opening period with a nifty shorthanded effort that aced OSU netminder Chelsea Knapp. Molli Mott and Audrey Hanmer added the assist for the Huskies to make it 1-0.

OSU knotted the score at 1-1 at 6:54 of the second period with an even-strength goal by Julia McKinnon. The Huskies fired back to gain a 2-1 lead at 18:58 of the second period with a shorthanded marker by Hanmer. The solo assist on the play was posted by teammate Amy Olson.

In the final period of play, Ohio State tied the game at 2-2 with an even-strength goal by Paige Semenza at 5:27 of the third. Danielle Gagne added the game winner for OSU at 7:28 of third to make it 3-2. In the closing minute of play, OSU's Tina Hollowell scored an empty netter to make it 4-2 at the 19:00 mark.

On the day, Ohio State owned a slight lead in shots at 33-32, while both teams were scoreless on the power play. In the nets, SCSU freshman Katie Fitzgerald provided a strong performance for the Huskies with 29 saves. Knapp gained 30 saves for OSU and also gained the decision in the game.
