BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) --The Bemidji State University women's hockey team defeated the Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks, 3-2 Saturday at Sanford Center. The Beavers improve to 6-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play, while the Mavericks drop to 3-8-0 overall and 0-8-0 in WCHA action. The sweep over the Mavericks was the first in WCHA play for the Beavers since Oct. 21-22, 2012 when they swept St. Cloud State University.

The Mavericks got the first goal of the game off of the stick of Kathleen Rogan on a power-play. It was the first power play goal the Beavers have allowed in four games (16 opportunities). The Mavericks peppered BSU's defense with shots, but the Beavers held tough and allowed just that one goal in the frame. MSU outshot the BSU 10-5 in the first period.

Trailing for the first time in the series, the Beavers' offense erupted with three goals in the second period. Bemidji State got goals from Hanna Moher (F, So., Milton, Ontario), Rachael Kelly (F, Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) and Kristine Grenier (F, Jr., St. Leon, Manitoba) with Grenier's coming on a BSU power-play. It is the fifth straight game that the Beavers have scored with a man advantage.

The Mavericks were also able to add a goal in the second period at the 5:37 mark, but the Beavers would go on to win with a final score of 3-2.

Brittni Mowat (G, Fr., Glenboro, Manitoba) continues to be a staple for Bemidji State in between the pipes. Mowat turned away 28 MSU shots en route to earning her sixth win of the season and third in the last four games.

Bemidji State, now 6-6-2 on the season with a 3-4-1 mark in WCHA play, travels to University of Minnesota Duluth Nov. 22-23. The Beavers and Bulldogs get the two-game series underway at 7:37 p.m. Friday with a 6:07 p.m. opening face off Saturday is set for the series finale.
