Junior goaltender Julie Friend makes 31 saves for Huskies

Vail, Colo. - The St. Cloud State women's hockey team headed to the Rockies this weekend for the Vail Tournament Nov. 15-16. St. Cloud started the weekend off Friday against #8 Boston University as they were shutout 2-0.

SCSU and BU kept the first period scoreless until the 6:04 mark as Boston University gained the first lead of the game 1-0 over St. Cloud. Samantha Sutherland recorded the goal unassisted. Shots on goal in the first were 12-10 in favor of Boston.

Boston University was able to come out in the second period extending their lead 2-0 over St. Cloud at the 4:35 mark with a goal by Sarah Bayersdorfer.

St. Cloud had many opportunities in the third period with some one-on-one situations and outshooting BU 15-9 but was unable to get shots past the Boston goalie to get on the board.

In goal for the Huskies was Julie Friend recording 31 saves, while BU's Kerrin Sperry tallied 28 for the win. Friend moves her record to 1-6-2 on the season. St. Cloud and Boston ended the game both going 0-4 on their power-play opportunities.

St. Cloud State (1-9-3, 1-7-2-1 WCHA) will be back in action in Vail on Saturday, Nov. 16 as they take on Northeastern University, another Hockey East Conference team. Game time is set for 3:07 p.m. CT from the Dobson Ice Arena.
