Senior forward Lauren Barnes had a goal and an assist for the Mavericks

St. Cloud, Minn. - St. Cloud State women's hockey team ended their series against Minnesota State Saturday afternoon in Brooks Center. The Huskies were unable to get the sweep as they fell 3-1 to the Mavericks.

The Huskies found themselves trailing Minnesota State again in the first period as MSU's Lauren Barnes scored at the 6:44 mark for a 1-0 lead. St. Cloud ended the first period outshooting Mankato 17-10.

Mankato extended their lead over St. Cloud in the second period at the 2:05 mark with a goal by Kathleen Rogan to make it a 2-0 game.

It was not until the 4:32 mark of the third period when the Huskies would try and make a run for it closing the Mavericks lead to 2-1. Junior defenseman Audrey Hanmer found the back of the net to score her first goal of the season. Freshman Lauren Hespenheide and senior Cari Coen were credited with the assists on the goal.

The Mavericks came back to seal a 3-1 victory over the Huskies at the 5:09 mark of the third as Kari Lundberg fired a shot past goalie Katie Fitzgerald.

Earning the start in goal for the Huskies was Katie Fitzgerald as she tallied 30 saves, while the Mavericks' Erin Krichiver posted 37 for the win. Fitzgerald moves her record to 1-5-1 on the season. St. Cloud ended the game outshooting Mankato 38-33.

St. Cloud State (3-12-3, 2-8-2-1 WCHA) will continue their home stand again Dec. 13-14 as they welcome Minnesota Duluth to the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Game times are set for 3:07 p.m. both days.
