ST. CLOUD STATE DEFEATED BY RENSSELAER, 4-1

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State women's hockey team was back in action Friday afternoon after a week off hosting their final non-conference series of the season against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. RPI took down the Huskies by a final score of 4-1 in Brooks Center.

The first period was scoreless period until the 17:59 mark when the Engineers' Alexa Gruschow shot into an open gap in the bottom right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. St. Cloud outshot RPI though 14-7 in the period.

St. Cloud came back in the second with some tenacity outshooting RPI once again 15-2 but still trailed 1-0. RPI was unable to get a shot on goal until over halfway through the second period as the Huskies defense controlled the period.

In the third period is where all the action came as the Engineers started it by making it a 2-0 game over St. Cloud at the 5:16 mark on a goal by Toni Sanders.

The Huskies came back though making it a 2-1 game, capitalizing on their fourth power-play opportunity as freshman Payge Pena found the back of the net. Assists were charted to freshman Kelsey Saelens and senior Julia Gilbert.

RPI would come back scoring a power-play goal and an empty-netter to end the game with a 4-1 victory over the Huskies.

Starting in goal for St. Cloud was junior Julie Friend, recording 17 saves, while RPI's Kelly O'Brien posted 44 for the win. St. Cloud ended the game outshooting RPI 45-21 and went 1-for-5 on the power-play, while the Engineers finished 1-for-3.

St. Cloud State (2-10-3, 1-7-2-1 WCHA) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (5-8-1, 3-3-0 ECACH) will be back in action for the final game of the series Saturday, Nov. 30 at Brooks Center with a 3:07 p.m. puck drop.
