WENTZVILLE, Mo. - The Bemidji State University women's hockey team defeated Lindenwood University in non-conference action Saturday afternoon by a score of 6-0. The Beavers, who improve to 12-9-1 overall with the win, close out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 5-1-0 record.

After being shut out in the series opener, the Beavers scored a pair of goals 35 seconds apart in the first period. Sophomore Lauren Miller got the scoring started at the 10:20 mark to give BSU an early 1-0 advantage. Alexis Joyce followed up Miller's goal with a goal of her own at 10:55 to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.

Bemidji State tacked on two more in the second stanza. Ivana Bilic took advantage of a Lindenwood hooking penalty with a power-play goal at the 8:07 mark of the third period to extend the lead to three. Fellow junior Whitney Wivoda took BSU's lead to 4-0 with her third goal of the season at 18:26, which was the score heading into the final period.

Miller tacked on two more goals in the third to complete the hat trick. The first came at 8:29 and the second came at 19:43 on the power play to seal the 6-0 victory. The hat trick was the first for a BSU player since Jan. 28, 2011 when former Beaver Erin Cody accomplished the feat against University of Minnesota Duluth.

In goal, sophomore Brittni Mowat made 30 saves and earned her seventh career shutout. Mowat improves to 10-6-1 with the victory.

Bemidji State will return to conference action next weekend as it travels to play nationally-ranked Minnesota Duluth Jan. 10-11.
