EMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) - The Bemidji State University women's hockey team was defeated by the Ohio State University 2-0 Friday evening at Sanford Center in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) action. BSU falls to 11-7-1 overall and 7-7-1 in conference play with the loss.

Ohio State's Taylor Kuehl took advantage of a BSU interference penalty to score the first goal of the game at the 11:33 mark. Despite outshooting the Buckeyes 10-5 in the first stanza, the Beavers remained down 1-0 going into the first intermission.

BSU outshot OSU in the second as well, 10-5, but it had kill off four power plays in the process. The Beavers blocked 12 shots in the second to keep the deficit at one heading into the final period.

The penalties showed up in the third as well for the Beavers as they committed four infractions including a five-minute major at the 16:01 mark to put BSU down a player for the last 3:59 of regulation.

Despite being a player short, Head Coach Jim Scanlan pulled goaltender Brittini Mowat to try and tie the game with 38 seconds left, but Ohio State netted an empty-net goal at 19:43 to seal a 2-0 Buckeye victory.

The Beavers blocked 29 shots in the contest and now sit fourth nationally in that category with 314. Junior Ivana Bilic led BSU with nine blocked shots.

Bemidji State was shut out for the second time in as many games versus the Buckeyes. OSU also shut out the Beavers earlier this season, 1-0 (Oct. 18).

The loss moves the Beavers to 18-33-10 all-time versus Ohio State.

Next up: Bemidji State will look to close out the 2014 portion of its schedule on a high note in the series finale. Puck drops at 2:07 p.m.
