COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's hockey team dropped a hard fought, non-conference contest to eighth-ranked Mercyhurst Tuesday evening at the OSU Ice Rink. With the 3-0 loss, Ohio State falls to 7-4-0 on the season, while Mercyhurst improves to 10-2-1 overall.

Ohio State came out strong defensively in the opening period, limiting the high-powered Mercyhurst offense to five shots on goal. The Buckeye penalty kill also withstood one power play opportunity for the Lakers. The teams ended the stanza scoreless, with shots balanced between the squads 5-5.

In the second, Mercyhurst broke the trend by scoring on a power play at 11:08. Laker forward Sarah Robello beat the Buckeye defense on the play to put Mercyhurst up 1-0. Overall for the period, Mercyhurst went 1-for-2 on power plays, while the Buckeyes were 0-for-4. Ohio State outshot the Lakers 8-6 and Sauve added five saves to her total.

The Lakers built a 2-0 lead seven minutes into the final period off a goal from junior forward Hannah Bale. The game was chippy from that point on, as the teams combined for seven penalties in the third.. Around the two-minute mark, Ohio State pulled goalie Kassidy Sauve, which opened up an empty-net scoring opportunity for Mercryhurst.

Sauve, a freshman this season, earned her ninth start in front of the net for the Scarlet and Gray. She picked up 13 saves overall, while Mercyhurst goalie Amanda Makela recorded 16. The teams ended the game locked, 16-16, in shots. The Buckeyes went 0-for-7 in power play chances, while Mercyhurst converted on 1-of-4 opportunities.

Ohio State will host Minnesota for a WCHA contest Nov. 14-15 at the OSU Ice Rink. The teams will face off 6:07 p.m. (ET) on Friday and 2:07 p.m. (ET) on Saturday.
