GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's hockey team played to a 2-2 tie against Ohio State on Friday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Buckeyes used a goal with two seconds remaining in regulation to tie the contest.

Ohio State went on to win the shootout, 1-0, in three rounds.

"I thought for the first couple periods we did a nice job, with a couple of decent goals with some quick shots and releases," head coach Brian Idalski said. "In the third period, obviously it got a little loose, with a couple of calls penalty-wise that were super unfortunate and we were just not able to seal the deal there at the end."

With North Dakota holding a two-goal lead, things started to turn in the Buckeyes' favor halfway through the third period. Dalen was assessed a game disqualification for kicking and received a five-minute major. The North Dakota penalty kill kept the Ohio State offense at bay, but with 23 seconds left on the major penalty, Becca Kohler was also given a five-minute major, this time for body-checking.

Fortunately, the UND penalty-kill unit was able to kill off both five-minute majors. However, the Buckeyes capitalized just two seconds after UND returned to full strength to make the game 2-1.

Ohio State kept the momentum after the goal and found the equalizer with an extra attacker with just two seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. Ohio State outshot UND 11-4 in the third period, with four of the 11 shots coming on the power play.

North Dakota started the game off strong, getting on the board with 12 seconds remaining in the first period. Dalen took a shot from the slot that Amy Menke deflected it in off the pipe and behind OSU goaltender Stacy Danczak to open the scoring. UND outshot Ohio State, 6-5, in the first period.

Dalen added a goal of her own midway through the second period to extend the lead to 2-0. Carrying the puck through center ice, she beat an Ohio State defender along the boards and broke into the zone with speed, roofing it past Danczak.

The Buckeyes outshot UND, 8-4, in the second period, but left the ice for the second intermission trailing by two. However, their late rally in the third and the shootout win after overtime would give OSU two points on the night.

Shelby Amsley-Benzie was in net for UND, making 24 saves, including six on the penalty kill. On the other side of the ice, Danczak made 16 saves for the Buckeyes. Both teams went 0-4 on the man advantage in the contest.

UND returns Saturday afternoon to finish off the weekend series with the Buckeyes with puck drop set for 4:07 p.m. (CT).
