GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- After being outshot and outscored through the first two periods of play, the University of North Dakota women's hockey team powered back in the third period, scoring three unanswered goals to claim a 4-3 win over Ohio State on Saturday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

"I thought we were a little sluggish off the hop and, obviously them scoring the first goal, you're a little concerned about what our response is going to be," head coach Brian Idalski said. "Obviously coming out down in the third to be able to answer quickly and respond to tie it up was big and then to get the lead was nice and so I really liked our energy in the third. I thought that they had plenty of excuses to pack it in and they played hard."

UND started the third period with a 2-1 deficit, but quickly responded with an equalizer and go-ahead goal within the frame's first three minutes.

Junior forward Shannon Kaiser scored her first goal of the season after a scramble on the left side of the Ohio State net. Kaiser's goal tied the game at 2-2 and less than a minute later Amy Menke scored to put UND up 3-2. Menke got the puck from the boards and sniped OSU's goalie Stacy Danczak for her second goal of the year.

Later in the period, Becca Kohler scored her first goal in five games to give UND a 4-2 lead and the eventual game-winner. Kohler received a backdoor pass from Menke and then fired it into the unopposed net with seven minutes remaining in regulation.

The Buckeyes didn't give up and with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, pulled Danczak for an extra attacker. Ohio State ended up scoring with the six-on-five advantage, but with only 10 seconds remaining in the game, the Buckeyes' second rally of the weekend would fall short.

Sophomore goaltender Lexie Shaw recorded her second win of the season, making 24 saves in the contest. Danczak finished the game with 17 saves.

Ohio State opened the scoring in the first period with a shot through traffic, but Meghan Dufault scored in the final six minutes of the frame to even the score at 1-1 before the first intermission.

Additionally, Ohio State scored one goal on four power-play attempts, which came in the second period to give the Buckeyes the 2-1 lead. UND went scoreless on only one power-play opportunity in the game.

North Dakota remains at home to host St. Cloud State next Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 29-30. Both games will start at 2 p.m. (CT).
