BEMIDJI, Minn. - The No. 6 Bemidji State women's hockey team defeated Minnesota State University Mankato, 3-1, Friday afternoon. Kristin Huber, Alexis Joyce and Summer Thibodeau all scored for the Beavers.

The Beavers (11-4-2, 8-4-1 WCHA) had seven student-athletes register a point in the game, including three different goal scorers. Hanna Moher, Whitney Wivoda, Kaitlyn Tougas, and Ivana Bilic each had an assist.

Bemidji State had a strong start to the game, dominating play in its offensive zone. The Beaver's pressure eventually wore down the Mavericks (2-12-1, 0-11-0 WHCA) and at 7:01, Huber found the back of the net for BSU's first goal.

The Beavers continued their strong start into the second period and out-shot the Mavericks 12-3 in the period. However, MSU goaltender, Brianna Quade, turned away every shot by BSU and headed into the final period in a 1-0 game.

Much of the third period played out the same as the second, but at 7:06, Joyce scored her fourth goal of the season to make it 2-0, Beavers. Minnesota State would answer back however, and four minutes later, Amanda Conway beat two Bemidji State defenders and put one past Brittni Mowat to bring the score to 2-1. Bemidji State would tighten defensively after the goal and sealed the victory when Thibodeau scored on the empty net with 1:13 remaining.

Mowat earned her 11th win of the season to push her record to 11-4-1 and stopped 13 of 14 shots. She now has 40 career wins at BSU and is one win away from tying Zuzana Tomcikova as the all-time wins leader in BSU women's hockey history.

Bemidji State and Minnesota State wrap-up the two-game series tomorrow at 2:07 p.m.
