MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team took home a tie Friday afternoon in Mankato vs. a St. Cloud State Huskies squad who are now 8-8-3 (4-8-3 WCHA) after the contest.

St. Cloud State jumped out to an early lead just 40 seconds after the puck had been dropped at Verizon Wireless Center. The play started with Husky forward Julia Tylke passing the puck to SCSU's leading point scorer Molly Illikainen down low, taking it behind the net of Minnesota State's goaltender, junior Brianna Quade (Newcastle, Ont.). Illikainen then made her way out from behind the goal line and slid the puck across the crease to defensman Lexi Slattery to finish for her third goal on the year. St. Cloud State was held scoreless the rest of the way by MSU. At the end of the first frame, Minnesota State saw an advantage in shots on goal at a clip of 10-6 and holding the Husky power play at a zero-for-one mark.

The Mavericks saw a lead in shots on goal the rest of the game, outshooting the Huskies 11-7 in the second period and 9-8 in the final regulation period.

In the third, it was Minnesota State freshman forward Jordan McLaughlin (Grand Rapids, Minn.) who evened things up at one goal apiece. Not three minutes had passed in the third period when the Maverick centerman caught a pass in the center of the right circle in St. Cloud State's end and one-timed the puck past the right shoulder of Husky goaltender Katie Fitzgerald. McLaughlin was set up by her line mates when freshman Emily Antony (Plymouth, Minn.) came around from behind SCSU's net and looked for sophomore Lindsey Coleman (Burnsville, Minn.) in the slot. Coleman was able to redirect the pass over to McLaughlin for her third tally on the year at 2:51.

A scoreless and shot-less overtime saw Minnesota State hold the shots on goal advantage the entire game through at a final count of 30-21.

In the shootout, it was SCSU who saw the tides turn their way as they outscored Minnesota State 2-1. MSU' Antony took a patient approach coming down the lane on her attempt that found its way to the back of the net. Illikainen and forward Payge Pena were able to notch two shootout attempts for the Huskies, ultimately cementing the battle.

At the end of the contest, Minnesota State was contained on their one extra-attacker opportunity while SCSU did not see any success on their two opportunities while Quade added 20 more saves on the season.

The Mavericks will play their final match against the Huskies for the 2015-16 season tomorrow afternoon in Mankato. Puck drop is slated for 2:07 p.m.
