Columbus, Ohio- For the first time in program history, the Ohio State women's hockey team (6-9-0) played a game in the state of Vermont (3-12-0). Based off today's result, it appears they've taken a liking to playing in the Green Mountain State.

The Buckeyes won Saturday's decision 5-2 over the Vermont Catamounts, the hosts of this weekend's Windjammer Classic. The win snaps a three-game losing streak, with the last Buckeye victory coming against then-No. 6 North Dakota.

Today's game, the third this season in which Ohio State scored five goals, was kicked off by Vermont's Taylor Willard and her power play goal 7:32 into the first period. It was the only goal of the period, one that ended in the Catamounts' favor. They outshot the Scarlet and Gray 13 to nine while notching the only goal of the frame. Ohio State wasn't without quality offensive chances though; during its lone power play opportunity it fired off four shots, twice as many as Vermont during the period.

It was only a matter of time before the Buckeyes converted a power play after the strong showing during the first 20 minutes, and sure enough Julianna Iafallo scored 5:11 into the second period on the Buckeyes' second power play of the game. Dani Sadek and Cara Zubko assisted on the goal, which was Iafallo's second of the year. At the 12:54 mark Katie Matheny added another goal to put Ohio State ahead 2-1, an unassisted score that gave the junior two on the season. Just a few minutes later, Kendall Curtis added to the barrage of offense with her team-leading eighth goal of the year at the 16:18 point of the second period, putting the Buckeyes up 3-1. Sadek added an assist on the play, her second of the period. The second frame was all Ohio State, which outshot Vermont 14 to six and tallied five shots on its two power plays.

The third period started off how the first one did, with a Catamount goal; this was one was scored by Dayna Colang just 1:12 into the final frame that cut Ohio State's lead to 3-2. The Buckeyes got that goal back quickly though when Matheny found the back of the net for the second time today and third time this season just 1:46 later. Erin Langermeier added an assist on the play, giving the freshman and Ohio native her first career point. A little over three-quarters of the way through the third period Lauren Spring added one more goal for good measure with helpers from Maddy Field and Julia McKinnon to make the score 5-2, which would hold as the final.

Ohio State returns to the ice tomorrow, Sunday, for its second game in the Windjammer Classic against Boston University. The game, taking place in Burlington, Vermont, is slated for a 1 pm ET puck drop.
