GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Three freshmen scored goals to help lead the UND women's hockey team past No. 10 Bemidji State, 5-2, on Friday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

UND got on the board early as Hallie Theodosopoulos scored her first collegiate goal, redirecting a shot from Halli Krzyzaniak at the 2:06 mark of the first period. The goal was also the first shot of the game, as it gave UND its earliest lead of the season. Freshman Abbey Stanley recorded her first collegiate assist on the goal as well.

Before the halfway point of the first period, UND struck again, this time off the stick of Finnish freshman Emma Nuutinen. Scoring her team-best fourth goal of the year, Nuutinen drove to the side of the net from the corner, and was able to jam the puck past BSU goaltender Brittni Mowat for the 2-0 lead.

The Fighting Hawks out-shot the Beavers 8-5 in the opening frame, but in the second both teams would trade a pair of goals, as shots in the second were deadlocked at 12-12.

Amy Menke started off the offensive filled second period with her second of the season at the 6:08 mark. With the puck in the Bemidji State zone, Menke went behind the net and scored off a wraparound, banking the puck off Mowat's skate. Lisa Marvin picked up an assist on the goal, earning her first points since making her return to the ice this season.

Bemidji State erased its goose egg at the 8:29 mark after a bad bounce off a defender's skate ended up in the back of the net.

North Dakota took back its three-goal lead at the 16:37 mark when Stanley scored her second of the season. Receiving a pass from Menke down low, Stanley fired off a quick a shot from the left face-off dot that beat Mowat's glove side up high.

The Beavers answered back with their final goal of the night with 48 seconds remaining in the period to cut UND's lead back to two before the third period.

Both sides settled into defensive battles in the third period, and the final goal was scored by Menke on an empty net while also killing off a penalty.

Lexie Shaw made 26 saves to earn her fifth win of the season, six of her saves came on the penalty kill. Mowatt made 25 saves in the losing effort.

North Dakota improves to 5-3-1 (4-3-0-0 WCHA) on the season, while Bemidji State now drops to 4-4-1 (2-4-1-0 WCHA).

The two teams finish off the weekend series in Bemidji, Minn., tomorrow afternoon. The game is schedule for a 3:07 p.m. (CT) start.
