BEMIDJI, Minn. - Freshman goaltender Kerigan Dowhy stopped a career-high 32 shots while sophomore Haley Mack netted a goal and an assist and sophomore Abby Halluska posted two assists to lead the Bemidji State University women's hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology, Saturday at Sanford Center.
The victory allowed the Beavers (8-10-2, 4-7-1 WCHA) to secure the non-conference series victory.
Bemidji State got off to a quick start in the game when junior Emily Bergland scored her fourth goal of the season while on a BSU power play just 2:40 into the opening period. BSU escaped with the one goal lead after the first frame trailing in shots to the Tigers (4-14-2, 1-7-0 CHA) 12-9.
The Beavers came out in the second period to out-shoot the Tigers, 21-9, and extended their lead to 2-0 when Alexis Joyce one-timed a pass from Mak Langei at 4:45 of the period. Bemidji State added another goal in the third period when Mack netted her third goal of the series just 1:20 into the final frame. RIT pulled within two just three minutes later when Madison Farrand scored her first goal of the season at 4:06 of the period, ending Dowhy's shutout.
