BOSTON, Mass. - Minnesota State women's hockey dropped a nonconference game against Northeastern 6-1 on Saturday, as part of the D1 in D.C., event, at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Sophomore winger Sofia Poinar was the lone Minnesota State (2-13-1) student-athlete to score. Poinar's goal - her second of the season - came at 16:28 of the first period. Freshman center Brittyn Fleming dispossessed the puck from a Northeastern (9-7-2) player in the neutral zone and the puck found its way to Poinar, who skated the puck in and fired a shot that deflected off a defender's stick and found the top-right corner of the net. Fleming picked up her team-leading ninth assist of the season.

However, the Huskies' offense proved to be too much for the Mavericks. Northeastern scored three goals in the first period and two more in the second to hold a 5-1 lead at the second intermission. Northeastern added one more goal in the third period to make the final score 6-1.

Northeastern's top-line of Denisa Krizova, Tori Sullivan and McKenna Brand combined for four goals and five assists for nine points. Krizova led the way with a hat trick for the Huskies.

Junior Katie Bidulka (1-10-0) started in goal for the Mavericks before being lifted for sophomore Chloe Crosby in the second period. Bidulka made seven saves and Crosby made 13. Brittany Bugalski (6-5-1) made 19 saves for Northeastern.

Northeastern held a 26-20 edge in shots on goal.

Minnesota State finished 0-of-6 on the power play, while Northeastern went 2-of-5.

The Mavericks return to the ice for an exhibition series next weekend with the Minnesota Whitecaps at Verizon Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 p.m., on Friday and 3:07 p.m., on Saturday.
