The St. Cloud State University women's hockey team (5-14-2, 3-11-0 WCHA) completed a weekend sweep of WCHA rival Minnesota State Mankato (3-18-1, 1-13-0 WCHA) with a 3-1 win at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Saturday, Jan. 6.

The Huskies and Mavericks battled through a scoreless first period before SCSU lit the lamp at 9:29 of the second period with a marker by Kayla Friesen. The play was assisted by Laura Kluge and Abby Thiessen. This marked Friesen's third goal of the season and her second goal of the weekend.

SCSU netted the eventual game winner at 5:01 of the third period with an even-strength goal by Hallie Theodosopoulus. Friesen and Kluge each had assists on the goal, which was the second of the season for Theodosopoulus. Of note, the assist was Kluge's team leading 11th of the season. She also paces the club this season with 16 points.

Minnesota State Mankato broke the shutout minutes later with a power play goal at 9:16 by Brittyn Fleming, which made it 2-1.

In the closing minute of play, MSU pulled its goalie and that allowed the Huskies to ice the game at 19:38 with an empty net power play goal by Hannah Potrykus. This was her second goal of the series and it was assisted by Alyssa Erickson and Emma Turbyville.

In the game, MSU outshot the Huskies 34-25. SCSU netminder Emma Polusny gained her fourth win of the season with a 33 save effort in the nets. On the power play, SCSU and MSU were both 1-3. The game's number one star was Kluge, while Poulsny was number two and Friesen was number three.

SCSU will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 9 with a non-conference game at Minnesota.
