MINNEAPOLIS -- Behind goals from Amy Potomak and Emily Oden and a 29-save effort from Sydney Scobee, the top-ranked University of Minnesota women's hockey team earned a 2-1 win over No. 5 Ohio State outdoors at Parade Stadium in celebration of Hockey Day Minnesota on Saturday.
"It was pretty amazing to be a part of Hockey Day Minnesota," head coach Brad Frost said. "When we got the call in the summer, it was obviously really exciting. Then to actually be able to be a part of it here today, to be on TV -- you know our sport unfortunately doesn't get on TV a whole lot, so we wanted to make sure it was as good of a product as possible, and it was a great day."
"Definitely the three points were huge," Scobee said. "Everything is really tight in the WCHA. We can never take a weekend off. Everyone is so competitive, so this is a really big win for us."
The Gophers are back on the road next weekend for a series at Wisconsin. Puck drop between the Gophers and Badgers is set for 7:07 p.m. CT Friday, Jan. 24 and 3:07 p.m. CT Saturday, Jan. 25 at LaBahn Arena in Madison, Wis.
