BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) -- Jenniina Nylund found the back of the net with 52.8 seconds left in three-on-three play to propel St. Cloud State University past Bemidji State University, 3-2, in the opening game of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.

Bemidji State outshot the Huskies 33-21 in the game but St. Cloud State goaltender Sanni Ahola held the Beavers to two goals in 64:08.

Seniors Tina Kampa and Clair DeGeorge each scored for the Beavers while senior goaltender Kerigan Dowhy stopped 18-of-21 shots by the Huskies.

St. Cloud State opened the scoring just 1:20 into the game when Olivia Hanson scored a bad-angle goal for her first goal of the seaon. Bemidji State responded with just 52 seconds left in the period when Kampa fired a wrist shot from the point that made its way through traffic for her first goal of the season.

DeGeorge then gave the Beavers their first lead since Jan. 22 when she scored her fifth goal of the season off a rebounded Reece Hunt shot 15:59 into the second period.

St. Cloud State tied the game just two minutes into the third period when Emma Bigham scored her first goal of the season while on a Husky power play. The Huskies then earned two points in the WCHA standings with Nylund's goal 4:08 into the overtime period.

Bemidji State earned two power plays in the game and came up empty on both chances while its penalty kill went 1-for-2.

Bemidji State, now 2-15-2 on the season, looks to salvage a series split tomorrow when they again host St. Cloud State to wrap up the 2020-21 regular season. Opening faceoff for BSU's senior Day will take place at 1:07 p.m.
